About
PSE&SSF
The PSE&SSF is recognized by the Federal Internal Revenue Service and the State of Washington as a 501-c-3 Charity. It is composed of active and retired scientists, engineers and related professionals who volunteer without compensation.
Since 2001, the PSE&SSF has awarded over four hundred and thirty scholarships to high school and college students throughout the Puget Sound area to pursue education in science or engineering. The awards ranged from $500 to $5,000 and have totaled over $650,000. Over ninety-five percent of every dollar received has gone directly to scholarships. Scholarships include both general and conditional scholarships:
- General scholarships are typically awarded to high school students who are committed to obtaining a science or engineering degree.
- Conditional scholarships are awarded to high school or college students who are either committed to obtaining a science or engineering degree or, in the case of college students, are currently enrolled in a science or engineering degree program. Conditional scholarships are awarded in accordance with conditions stipulated by scholarship donors. Examples of such conditions are that scholarships be awarded to:
- students attending a specifically named university;
- students studying specific scientific or engineering disciplines; or
- students who meet additional eligibility criteria set by professional engineering or scientific societies. An example of the latter are currently awarded scholarships which require that applicants be sponsored by a member of the Seattle Post of the Society of American Military Engineers.
All Scholarship recipients are chosen solely based on demonstrated dedication to their studies, contribution to their communities, and financial need.
